Sterling/Atlas guitars appear to have been made at Japan's Kawai/Teisco guitar factory, one of the more well known ones from the past.

It looks like all their guitars said Sterling on the headstock (I own a Sterling Les Paul copy), and the labels inside the acoustics read Atlas.

Atlas was based in Hicksville, NY

I picked up a mahogany spruce D-212 Dred laying dusty in an antique shop a few years back. Great action and tone. I actually live a few blocks away from West John Street in Hicksville where Atlas was located, but never knew they were there. Great guitar.
